Preschool

The Preschool grades, K2-K4, are characterized by small classes, taught by experienced, degreed teachers, utilizing the very best research-based instructional resources available with customized curriculum guides.  All First Presbyterian Academy teachers and staff are dedicated, Christian professionals who love children and seek to provide a clear model of a biblical, grace-centered Christian life and worldview to our students.

 While every aspect of the school is based upon a Biblical worldview, as an evangelical school.  First Presbyterian Academy is open to all qualified students regardless of their, or their parents’ religious background or training.

Instructional Opportunities

Teachers at the Academy provide a framework of structuring learning that is flexible enough to enable them to respond to children’s developing interests.  Children learn through play and exploration with emphasis on hands-on direct interactive experiences.  The student sin the four-year-old program are introduced to phonics and reading through Big Day for Pre-K and Open Court Readers.  The 3’s and 4’s also use the Zaner Bloser Continuous Stroke Method of Handwriting.

Students play on the playground or in the gym when they arrive.  After playtime, students are walked to their classrooms for the academic day.

 Additional Information on K4 All Day Program

In an attempt to best serve the children and families in our K4 program, the Academy offers a full-day K4.  Details concerning the program are as follows:

  • Rigorous Academic: Bible, Reading, Phonics, Writing, Handwriting, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies
  • Related Arts and Academic Enrichment: Art, Music and P.E., Centers, and STEM Lab

Christian Worldview

Christian Worldview is an overarching view of the world based on God’s revealed truth, the Bible, which directs our life in the world.  The Christian Worldview is the framework through which the academic program is taught, and it permeates all levels of the school and all coursework at the school.

Campus Facility

First Presbyterian Preschool is part of the Academy and classes are located on the ground floor of the Symmes-Wilson Building and the ground floor of the McCoy Education Building.  There is a plan for a new facility that will include the Preschool, Elementary, and Middle School.  The new school will be located in downtown Greenville on the First Presbyterian Church campus.
